Mentoring

I regularly work one-on-one with writers on their prose (fiction or non-fiction). In addition to constructive criticism on manuscripts at any stage of development, from a first to a final draft, I offer encouragement as well as the opportunity to discuss any aspect of the writing life, including process, revision, and publishing, in order to help you achieve your writing goals.

I provide detailed written comments on characterization, setting, structure, point of view, story, and voice along with extensive line edits. I am then available discuss my notes and answer questions either by phone, email, Skype, or in person. My international clients have gone on to publish their work and win literary awards.

Manuscript Evaluation

I provide detailed written comments regarding characterization, setting, structure, point of view, story, and voice along with extensive line edits on book-length manuscripts (fiction or non-fiction) as well as individual stories and essays. I then discuss my notes and answer questions either by phone, email, Skype, or in person.

Workshops

I have taught creative-writing workshops to the community through organizations including Workman Arts, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the University of Guelph, Progress Place, The 519, and the Toronto Public Library. Through readings, discussion, and hands-on exercises, participants learn techniques to make their writing come alive.

Please contact me if you are an individual, school, library, or community organization interested in one of my fiction or multi-genre workshops. Workshops range in length from 1 to 10 sessions and can be customized to suit your needs.
